For sale is a remarkable piece of art history: a stunning silk jacquard tapestry called a Stevengraph. It was woven on Neyret Freres’s looms, after the famed artist Johann Hamza, titled “Le Sentier Dangereux”. The subject is a charming moment as a damsel is assisted by her gentleman while stepping on rocks to cross a stream. So romantic. This exquisite piece is highly detailed. It showcases the mastery of Neyret Freres and encapsulates what was considered high-tech for jacquard textiles at turn of the 1900’s. Both “Hamza” and “NF” (Neyret Freres) are woven into the tapestry at the bottom. While you may find other examples of this Stevengraph image, you will never find one as beautifully presented. It is artfully set within a beautiful French Matte, skillfully hand drawn to enhance this image and gilt frame. Condition: antique silk is in good condition, great color. Frame measures 12” x 18"
