I initially thought it was something that could be washed or shined off because it doesn't feel scratched. Otherwise, this teapot is in excellent condition given that it is potentially up to 86 years old :) From auction website: "Homer Laughlin's Riviera pottery is a small line, consisting of less than twenty pieces. This teapot is one of the few lidded pieces. Additionally, this early variation consists of a hand punched strainer that is built inside the pot covering the spout opening."
