Murano art glass bowl or ashtray. This blown, stretched and folded cased glass bowl was made in Murano, Italy in the 1960's and is attributed to the exceptional work produced by Arte Vetraria Muranese (AVeM), whose work was popular in middle of the 20th century and is highly collectible today. The bowl was created with a spattering of colored glass pieces which some refer to as "end of day" because it appears that left-over glass pieces from other projects are used in the piece. This piece does have some "zanfirico" pieces of glass that are actually very thin fine strands of glass that have been overlapped and twisted to give it a lace effect. Those white lacy pieces can be seen in this bowl. It also has flecks of gold aventurine and silver leaf "fume" on the back that was added to create the stunning visual effect. Then the entire piece was encased in clear glass for depth and added interest. The bowl is substantial and weighs 2 pounds 12 ounces. It measures approximately 8.5"x 8.5"
