Beautiful original oil painting by Russian-American artist Boris Major (B Major) of a peasant /farmer woman raking with very primitive wooden rake. Very good pre-owned condition. The gold wooden frame measures 13 ,75" x 6,75" x 1,5. Sight: 12,75" x 5,7 Boris Major (1876-1951) was born in Russia as Berko Mesherowsky. He studied art in Russian, and then at the Academy of Art in Munich, Germany. He immigrated to the US in 1906 and lived in the New York City area. Berko became a US citizen in 1911, and changed his name to Boris Major. In 1929 he departed on a two year journey through Europe and North Africa. One of his stops was in Venice. This painting was probably painted on the early years. It looks very like Russia or Europe. There are pictures taken where the light goes through and it looks like cracked. I'm not the specialist but I assume that the canvas is kind of frayed due to age. The "cracks are not visible When it's flat. Also there is tiny white scratch.
