Cut by T.G. Hawkes & Company in the 1890's, Portland is a perfect example of American Brilliant Cut at its best. This bowl is 9.5" in diameter and 4" tall. What makes this bowl unique is that it was broken at one time and the owner felt it was valuable enough to have it had it repaired using the staple method, which was very common in the early 1900's. American Brilliant Cut pieces were very expensive and a valuable piece was repaired versus being thrown away. This bowl is not perfect, but in great shape for being over 130 years old. In addition to the staple repair there is one tooth chipped off. The price reflects all its beauty and flaws. Please Note: Before I list an item for sale, I do extensive research to identify its origin, pattern, date manufactured, and authenticity. I also inspect each item very closely and disclose any imperfections I see, but my items are mostly vintage, gently used pieces, and there may be a flaw I missed or even a mistaken pattern name or manufacturer.
