The battery compartment is clean, SEE PICTURES. There are some scratches, but no rust, SEE PICTURES. I put D batteries in and the red light on top came on. It didn't move or make the sounds. Maybe my batteries are weak or a loose wire. The tires are rubber. It comes with the original box that had some damage, SEE PICTURES. This was my brother's toy and it wasn't beat up.
