Antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha, 47cm (18") Tall, Gilt Wood. At the end of the 18th century, during the Konbaung dynasty, the Mandalay style of the Buddha image emerged, a style that remains popular to this day. This style departed from the Innwa style with the Buddha's face more natural, fleshy, with naturally-slanted eyebrows, slightly slanted eyes, and thicker lips. As in this example the Mandalay-style Buddhas typically wears flowing, draped robes. This original early 19th century piece is fashioned from Teak (Wood) and shows only minor (and expected) 'wear and tear' due to its age.
