Philip Niekro, nicknamed "Knucksie", was a Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher for 24 seasons. He played for the Braves, Indians, Yankees, and Blue Jays. Niekro is widely considered the greatest knuckleball pitcher ever. His father, a former semi-professional player, taught him the knuckleball, a pitch designed to have no spin, making its flight susceptible to air currents. Niekro pitched 5,404 innings, the most of any pitcher who began his career in the live ball era.
