The term "toleware" comes from the French word "tole," meaning sheet metal. It generally refers to household items made from tin or thin metal sheets that are lacquered or enameled and often hand-painted. Toleware first became popular in the 18th century. In the 1950's there was a revival in toleware home decor and I believe that is when this particular lamp was made. It is a grayish off white base color with black painted floral details. Made in the student desk lamp design. 2 armed. Frosted chimney and shade on one arm. This lamp is tall and heavy. Height 27.25'', Diameter- 16'' Shade & 7'' base.
