    “Painter and printmaker born April 6, 1909 in Brooklyn, NY. Won a scholarship at 15 to Art Students League where she studied with John Sloan and George Bridgman. She also worked with Emil Ganso, learning lithography, and Alexander Archipenko, learning mosaics. After receiving a large payment for a portrait commission, she traveled to Europe and studied at the Academie Colarossi in Paris. In 1932 she was in Mexico where she met Pablo O’Higgins who encouraged her to try fresco mural painting. She received a commission from the Mexican government to paint a mural at the University of San Nicolas Hidalgo in Morelia. She also painted murals for the WPA during the depression. She was 1 of 2 women artists appointed as war correspondents during WWII. She taught at UT and was an artist in residence at Syracuse University.
