Howard Russo Skull Ball Media: Bronze 2017 6"D, 10lbs. $300 Also known as the Catacomb Ball, the Skull Ball sculpture was created in a local foundry and is made of a hefty 9lbs of solid Bronze. Each of the sculpture's 52 skulls began as wax and were formed into the spherical shape in which they currently rest (in peace). A thick, wax "stem" is attached to several of the skulls right before the entire wax figure is dipped in plaster. Once hardened, the wax and plaster mix is placed upside down in a kiln allowing the wax to melt out leaving a hollow plaster mold of 52 skulls. The plaster mold is then taken to the foundry where it is filled to the top with 1675°F molten Bronze. This is a one-of-a-kind conversation-starting statement piece was created by an artist with over 30+ years of experience.
